How to Lock WhatsApp on Android and iPhone

On WhatsApp, we all have some private messages that we don't want others to view. Of course, personal discussions are what WhatsApp is used for. Even if your phone is password-protected, some people (for example, your close friends) may have access to it.

It becomes important to keep your WhatsApp locked so that no one can spy on your messages without your consent. There are several ways to lock WhatsApp. You can also use biometrics, fingerprints, pattern locks, PIN-based passwords, and other security choices.

Use WhatsApp built-in fingerprint lock

WhatsApp's latest version has a new feature that allows you to set a fingerprint lock to your account. There's no need to use a third-party app locker anymore. However, this function is limited because it currently lacks a pattern and PIN-based lock.

Only devices with a fingerprint sensor and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or higher versions of Android can use the fingerprint lock function. Some smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 4, and Note 8, do not currently support this function.

You must first add your fingerprints to your phone's settings before enabling the fingerprint lock on WhatsApp. Go to Settings > Security > Fingerprints to do so. If you have locked your phone, you may need to unlock the screen lock. Then you can add your fingerprints to the mix.

Another thing you should do is keep your WhatsApp up to date. If you're still using an older version of WhatsApp, head to the Google Play Store and download the latest version. Once you've completed these steps, you'll be able to use the fingerprint lock on WhatsApp.

  • To begin, open WhatsApp and select the menu option (three dots at the top right corner)
  • Then click to Account > Privacy > Settings > Account > Privacy.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Fingerprint lock."
  • Now click the "Unlock with fingerprint" option to enable it. For security reasons, you will be requested to confirm your fingerprint.

After that, you select the time period for which you want the screen to be locked. There are three options: immediately, 1 minute later, and 30 minutes later.

Use AppLock app to lock WhatsApp

You can also use a third-party app locker to lock WhatsApp on your Android phone. AppLock will be used in this technique. This programme offers a variety of locking methods, including password, pattern, fingerprint, and biometric. Follow the instructions in this step-by-step guide.

  • AppLock is an Android app that you may download and instal on your phone. It's available for free on the Google Play Store.
  • When you first use the app, you'll be asked to design and confirm an unlock pattern.
  • Then press the "Agree and begin" button.
  • Find WhatsApp in the list of apps and tap the lock button next to it.

A pop-up box will now display, asking if you want to grant AppLock usage permission. Simply press the Permit button to access the phone's settings, where you can enable usage access.

You've been successful in locking WhatsApp. Open AppLock and go to the Protect tab if you wish to alter the lock.
